Open Eyes

We still haven’t heard back from our birth mom…but I did fire off a semi-panicked note to one of our people at the agency. She got in touch with the birth mother and confirmed that it was what the sensible part of my brain had been telling me: our birth mom had been out of town with friends for the long holiday weekend and wasn’t spending her time off obsessing about e-mails. All is well, we’ve been told.

Whew.

In the meantime, I’ve already been noticing what a seismic shift the move from possible to probable is. I had to pick up a few things in Target over the weekend, and suddenly noticed…well, how about that: the store has this whole big ol’ section of baby stuff.

I’ve been in this particular Target a bunch of times, and had even walked right by this section on the way to buy things for my old/current life. Now that there’s a tangible probability of this new/future life, it’s opening my eyes to things that had been right in front of me. Like, the supermarket has an array of baby food. And I bet the open setup of our fireplace is going to be a problem one day…one day kind of soon.

I need to make a list, I suppose. A baby list. Or more likely baby lists. There is suddenly all of this new stuff to think about and get to and get done, and if our birth mother sticks with us all the way to the March due date, we’re going to need to think about it, get to it, and get it all done in fairly short order. Now that my eyes are open to the new probabilities, there’s a hell of a lot to see.

  1. As one who has recently been down this road before, I wholeheartedly endorse Target as the place to get all your baby related needs fulfilled. But also plan to have a shower/party where your friends and family can also bring you lots of goodies. It can be very overwhelming picking things out and if you enlist a good friend to help you, you will save your self a heap of grief.

    • Thanks! I know I’ll have to do some sort of registry…and that this is yet another task that isn’t as far in the future as it used to seem.

  2. Saw your news on L&F and came over to “meet” you.

Target gets a thumbs up from me, too.

I’m gonna see if I can find your email address. There’s something I’d like to mention.

  3. I am so happy for you to finally get to go shopping. Target does have some super cute stuff as most of my friends registered there for their baby showers.

  4. Hello from LFCA. We too are adopting but are still waiting for our match. Good luck and we’ll be waiting to hear the great news once baby is home!
